According to the Alabama Attorney General, TikTok will pay at least $100 million and could pay up to $300 million if certain conditions are met. Alabama sued in April 2025.

Limits on Teen Use

The settlement requires TikTok to limit minors to two hours a day, show break prompts at 15, 60 and 90 minutes, block access between midnight and 6 a.m., limit messaging and notifications overnight and during school hours, verify ages, ban cosmetic filters for teens and give teens a feed that is not personalized by default.

More Cases Against TikTok

More than a dozen other states and the District of Columbia have filed similar lawsuits against TikTok. A Texas judge found TikTok liable on September 10, 2026 for misrepresenting its safety tools, and Arizona sued on October 8, 2026. In August, TikTok agreed to pay $400 million to resolve a Justice Department lawsuit over children’s privacy.

TikTok has also settled every personal injury case set for trial in Los Angeles this year. The terms of those settlements are confidential. Government settlements pay the states and the federal government, not families. A family seeking compensation for a child’s injuries must file its own claim. See the TikTok lawsuits.
